I had an epiphany the other day.
It happened while chatting with my good storytelling chum, Dave Lewis.
Dave came on the podcast, and at the beginning of our talk, he mentioned feeling a bit of the nerves creeping in. Voices that can sometimes be discouraging towards our pursuits.
It dawned me that there is a strange irony at play with those inner voices.
I’m talking about the critic, fear, doubt, imposter, etc.
It’s a whole friggin’ consulting department in the workspace of our minds. Feel free to identify more and share.
The thing that dawned on me is that it doesn’t seem like any of the staff members of that overprotective and frightened team have any fear or hesitations with speaking up and letting their voices be heard.
They are unrestrictedly willing to scream their guts out at the top of their lungs for what they believe in front of their audience (Audience of emotions).
A thing (public speaking) that most people fear more than death itself!
Isn’t that interesting?
Dave and I dug into this in real time on the episode today. Tap or click on Dave below to have a listen:
While on the topic of inner voices, traffic, and ad campaigns that go on inside of us, Dave offered up a lovely songwriting prompt:
What is my heart saying?
What does it need to express?
Perhaps our hearts aren’t as willing to make their voices known as the other inhabitants in the buildings of our bodies.
Maybe our heart would speak more freely if we allowed it the same space that all the other voices can typically dominate.
With that in mind, I’d love to open up that space to hear from you and your heart.
What IS it saying? What DOES it need to express?
I’d love to know, so if you’re comfortable sharing, I’m all ears.
I’m willing to say that if you take the time to answer these thoughts from Dave, and give a go at writing that song, it will most likely end in a song you love ❤️.
Bravo Dave and Michael. What a heart warming conversation about creativity and community.
